Comic for August 27, 2006. Today's comic is actually two pages long, making amends for the missed comics on January 30 and February 20. I've been tinkering with the script on this one for a long time; the first page was made last week, and the second page was made today.

Yay for the first appearance of mister non-stereotypical vampire. Psychic vampire, at that.

Footnotes from the comic pages:
* See examples of human-and-dragon friendships and heroic dragons in Greek and Roman natural histories, such as The Natural History of Pliny the Elder, Book viii, Chap. xxii (after Democritus) and Aelianus de Natura Animalium: Book VI, Chap. 63; Book VIII, Chap. 11; Book X, Chap. 48, and others. All are cited in Charles Gould's Mythical Monsters (1886) which was republished as Dragons, Unicorns, and Sea Serpents (2002).
** See the chapter on unicorns in Charles Gould's Dragons, Unicorns, and Sea Serpents. I don't have to identify specific antiquated sources that he quoted in this case, because virtually all of them ended up saying unicorns are "fierce" or "ferocious." I'd intended to make a tally of it.

The comic for August 26!

What, another one? Yes!

The first birthday of Theri There is coming up soon on September 4... a whole year! Many webcomics never make it that far. Although I have a zillion scripts and comic ideas in my notebooks, there were stretches when I wondered if I could ever find the time to make finished versions of any of them. A comic a week sounds easy until you get into midterms, and once you've lost your pace at comic updates, it's hard to pick it up again.

In celebration of Theri There's upcoming birthday, I'm going to make sure that this will be a full year of comics. In the past, I've missed 17 of the weekly comics, and now I'm going to make up for each of them. That's why there's an additional update today: it's a replacement for January 16, the first update that I missed. It cuts the count of missed comics down to 16 and raises the list of finished comics to 32.

Comic for the week of August 10, 2006.

[Edit on following day] After I posted this comic, Aaarhus informed me that there's another comic that made a very similar joke to this one. The comic is by Thornwolf and was made in 2003, so it predates mine pretty well: http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Thornwolf/Sketches/pshift.jpg I honestly wasn't aware that anyone else had made that particular joke before, much less made it into a comic. Nice comic, Thornwolf! Sorry about the similarity of joke, it seriously was coincidental. "Great minds think alike," I guess. *blush* Thanks for kindly letting me know about that, Aaarhus.

Comic will appear for Monday, July 17, 2006.

Note: This is not a Harry Potter character, this is a recurring character from my own comic. She appears in the previous page as well.

This is one of the other projects I've been focusing on lately instead of "Theri There"...

Now active: [livejournal.com profile] t_o_book_club is the Therianthrope & Otherkin Book Club. Every couple months, the book club selects one book from the Otherkin & Therianthrope Book List to read, review, and discuss together.

For June and July, the selected book is Laurence Yep's Dragonwings. One of the main characters, Windrider, is a true-to-life example of draconity.

New comic will appear on January 23rd, 2006.

Yes, it's a brand-new, fully-finished comic this time! I've been working with the time management schedules, as promised, and it's helped me work the comic into my time a bit better. I found that laying out, drawing, lettering, and inking today's comic took five hours total... not counting the preliminary sketches, and the cleanup and tinting that I did after I scanned it into the computer. Writing the script doesn't even count into the time in this instance, since it's a guest script. Thanks, Baxil!

This week's comic.

Notes: This is the second Theri There guest comic, written and illustrated by Lauren. Exploring outside of the topic of therianthropy, today’s comic introduces the concept of personal inner worlds. A person who has an inner world isn’t necessarily otherkin, and vice versa.

Transcript:
Today’s guest comic is by Lauren. A person sits at their computer desk, under a caption saying, “People often say that I look like I’m off in my own little world. That’s nothing.”
A rocket flies by a ringed planet. The caption says, “I know people who are off on their own planet!”
Caption: “Personally, I have a castle and a beach and some mountains. The basics.” The castle is shown, with a dragon in the sunny sky above.
A person reclines on a sofa, holding hands with someone. A group photo hangs above a bookcase and a goldfish bowl. Caption: “I have friends inside, too.”
The castle is shown inside of the person’s head. Caption: “And I take it everywhere with me.”
