There's a purpose to it, but that's not it. ;) The reason: I post about it on Livejournal first so that I can get the url for the Livejournal post that will correspond to the page on ComicGenesis. Then I take that url and make it into a "discuss today's comic" link on the ComicGenesis page. If I want Autokeen to include that link, I need to have the link available before it updates.
Otherwise, I would have to let the comic update without a link on it, post about it on Livejournal, and then manually add the link to the ComicGenesis page, which would mean I'd have to do some additional waiting around to get everything done instead of getting everything set all at once.
Because that would involve requesting a manual update on ComicGenesis, and I'm under the impression that manual updates will be completed more slowly than allowing an automatic update. I only use manual updates for when I'm adding non-comic pages or revising old comics.
Hey! I've been reading this comic for a goodly ammount of time now, but never got up the courage to comment till now. Just wanted to say that I love this site, and I sure was lucky to stumble across it. A whole lot of confusing things I'd noticed about myself suddenly made a lot more sense. For example, say, my strong tendancy to snarl when irritated. And just why it was that filing my nails to points felt so right. Heh.
But, yah. Forgive ramblyness. As for today's comic, it's absolutely gorgeous. I adore the last panel especially. It really captures that sense of awe and wonder that I always get staring at the sky. The way it's presented makes it very strongly effective, with even the dragon seeming small against the starscape before xir. (Did I get that right? Not so good with the gender-neutral pronouns....) Anyway, strongly with the yes. I love this comic sooo much and I can't describe how gleeful I am to see it updating again.
Ditto kalanco, jrrhack, mankhsihed, and Yao Chi. Stunning. It's been so long since I've appreciated the night sky like that (the skies here in the city SUCK)/(have I done it since my Awakening?), but I completely agree with the stip.
Hmm... come to think of it, it's been a few years since I've seen a clear night sky, too. The air and light pollution in my area has gotten worse as the city sprawls wider. Only a dozen stars manage to penetrate the haze. I should probably take a ride some weekend to a place farther out in the country and have a look at unadulterated starlight.
You won't regret it one bit. And from someone who has an interest in astronomy, I'd reccomend taking a decent pair of binoculars and maybe a star-map guide telling you where to look. You can find some beautiful things, even with just a pair of binocs.
You know, this comic doesn't just sum me up, but I believe that it sums up what I believe life itself is about. Life is about learning, and you have articulated that exceedingly well. That comic is wonderful, and drawing it in shapes like that just makes that much better.
I like astronomy for the reasons you put in the comic, because there's so much out there. I've always meant to explore draconity more, but it's just something I haven't done yet. One of these days, I will.
You got me pegged. I can't count the number of times I've just laid down and gazed up at the night sky, not trying to understand anything, nor see pretty pictures...just...look. Look, and let the mystery and wonder of the beyond...I often think, when I'm gazing, "Somewhere, somewhere out there...is the planet of my first life." I cannot describe what it feels like, to just lay down and look at the stars....Gahhhh, I could write a dissertation on how indescribable it feels, but I'm not. I will leave it at that.
Lovely image today. Many of the others seem (to me) to be a bit tongue in cheek, (in a good way!), but this one sums up my own feelings completely. I'm fortunate in that I live near a piece of fairly large park ground, which is reasonably sheltered from city light. I like sometimes to go sing to the stars there.
They always listen.
And dont throw stuff and yell at me to shut up, cos my voice is molesting them.
We learn that we are tiny, compared to the Stars. We learn we are immense compared to the cells of our own bodies. Once we stop comparing, we learn that size is only relative, and life is eternal. Perhaps, we are learning all this so that the Creator of all has someone to talk to...
I am very impressed with this comic, both its content and graphics. I like the gentleness and honesty with which it is drawn. The logo is very smart and cute.
I only wish there was a comforting "there there" strip for non-therians who lack the experiences you describe. :)
And to think that I would have given up on a comic as this ever existing! (actually some weeks ago I e-mailed the creator here w/ an idea/question. She nixed that, but encouraged me to join in, and well, um, Just a few quick things here, so I'll #-ise them.
1. Okay honestly why it's taking me so long to join, is that, well, I'm a bit nervous being here, I mean You try being a horse and walking into a room full of wolves and dragons and tigers and whatnot! The fact that I work at a boarding kennel, and I'm taking a 'This is not a pipe' mentality to all this does help out a bit.
2. These comics remind me of term I'd read once in one of Linda Kohanov's books, but not much anywhere else. It's a pyschology term for a personality type that is recently being recognised called Borderland Personality. Anyone ever hear of it?
I just found out about your comics today (after that adorable first "COUGAR!!" comic) and read them all almost in one sitting. x3; Thanks so much for writing this!
