I've found that when speaking with people it is often best just to state your species, rather than the phenomona, as you put it. :) It just seems easier to understand.

But then there's the concern over stereotypes and preconceptions that go with species. Stating a species that is majestic or grand also tends to sound a bit like bragging.

There's three sides to every coin, I guess. Personal word usage is one that each person probably has to come to terms with.
