Perhaps it's something like cyclothymia, which could be described as a milder form of bipolar? It's when you don't get to quite the same extremes of emotion as bipolar. And allegedly it's what I have. I think that emotions are definitely something that can be fueled by energy,or lack thereof, and so maybe you've got energy based cyclothymia (or bipolar, or whatever)? I don't know, I'm making this up as I go along, I think my former Psychology lecturer would probably shoot me for suggesting it!
