I'm not particularly fond of the tradional jewels, for example, particularly diamonds, because you can get just as good an effect from good cut crystal at a fraction of the cost! And semi-precious or even common stones can be much more interesting and varied. I have a small hoard of £1 coins, just for the different pictures ^.^ I don't sleep on them though, there aren't quite enough to make a pile *G*
