Image description: A single panel comic. The caption says, "Halloween is when our costumes are taken off." In the background, a row of people in business suits check their watches, and start unfastening their neckties and buttons. In the foreground, a businessperson removes their blazer, transforming into a tiger with an optimistic smile. Description ends.

Note from 2005: When offered a chance to wear a costume, some people dress as their opposite. Some dress as what they wish they were. And some go as themselves…

Date: 2005-11-01 10:39 pm (UTC)I've used http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ for recording and editing sound on my computer. It's freeware, so it's not just a 30 day trial, and it has some neat special effects it can do... however, it can be buggy about saving files! That'd be a scare if you were dictating a novel onto it...
You might want to experiment with several shareware sound-recording programs and stick with whichever one is the most reliable when it comes to saving. Save recordings to multiple different files, not just to one file... that way if you accidentally lose one chunk of the book, you still have all the other parts of the novel.

Date: 2005-10-30 10:24 pm (UTC)..Oh, wait. That's because it isn't monday yet.
I really would like to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, but..I don't currently have any burning desires to write in my soul.
No, wait, I could do the story about Rakul Goatlizard, atypical hero/adventurer. But....eh.

Too bad I haven't got the materials for a good mask around here...

Date: 2005-10-31 02:03 pm (UTC)Nice strip today. I ought to go as a bird one of these days, but that'd be a bitch of a costume to make. Although... hm. Phoenix fursuit, or would that be a feathersuit in my case? Could be interesting.
Re: Sadness!
Date: 2005-10-31 04:08 pm (UTC)I made a last-minute bird costume for Halloween when I was ten. Mostly just a black outfit with paper-feathered cardboard wings and tail hung on it. It looked complete, though, so that's probably all that's needed to casually convey "bird" ...aside from mask/headgear that would help convey "No, a bird, not an angel."
My costume was made less ambiguous by my reciting a verse of Poe's "The Raven" at each door.

Date: 2005-11-01 02:55 am (UTC)Very easy, very fun. A big pain to pick out of the sweater later though.

Date: 2005-10-31 09:04 pm (UTC)I'd do NaNo, but I don't have a clue what I'd write about, nor the attention span to stick with one story for that long. Though the short time allotted could probably counter that. I don't know, if someone has a really, really interesting idea, I might give it a shot. @_@

Date: 2005-11-01 12:39 am (UTC)I think that NaNo is a good idea and is good writing practice, to write without worrying about (or getting bogged-down in) edits. I would do it, but I don't think I could devote the time in between my studying. I have been working on a couple other projects, too, one being a sort of novel (currently rather bogged-down in editing), the other being rather conceptual and "out there" in terms of format.

Date: 2005-11-01 02:57 am (UTC)I'm still working on stories, and a novel--I'm just not going to do it on that timeframe anymore.

Date: 2005-11-01 09:18 pm (UTC)Procrastination has always been my muse's bane. Most of my "books" haven't been written down yet... I just loaf around and tell people about this great book I'd like to write. That sort of thing.

Date: 2005-11-07 01:35 pm (UTC)With my current mess of a schedule, I managed to almost forget about NoNoWriMo, and I'm certainly not going to try it this year.
For next Halloween/Samhain, though, while I'll have to save up money, I think I've found the place to get the mask (http://maskmaker.com/faerie.html).
