Hee hee, I like. The deer guy actually articulates my philosophy pretty well... however, if it had to do with my 'kin self, I would eat a LOT more fish. Since I don't eat any.
I very much like this. I've had serious philosophical conversations with friends, and other vegetarian friends, regarding why I could or could not eat vat-grown meat, ethically, as a dragon. And how much I miss hunting but why I'd not do it with a gun.
In term of diet, I would be very much eating like the cougar...if the animals weren't mistreated in life like they so often are. And if I wasn't dating a veggie. XD Teh LOL.
I'm in the area of needing to eat meat, for the protien... but I desperately wish I could afford to eat only free-range or small-farm meat, animals that I know were raised under ethical conditions. As it is, I eat hamburger patties from CostCo and feel guilty. :/
vat grown meat? does that exist? 0_o even so, it would make for interesting discussion concerning ethics :) do you not hunt with a gun so you're more fairly matched with your prey?
*meh* I wish I had more access to free-range meat. If nothing else, it tastes better. ESPECIALLY free range chicken. The stuff I get right now has gotten to tasting so nasty, I think I may have to swear it off for a while. x.x
In the meantime I have to stick with whatever I can find, since if I crave red meat and go without it for too long, I start wanting to kill and eat the humans around me. *cough* Got a little temper problem attached to that. Saving the venison my grandparents sent for an emergency right now...
I'd love to be able to hunt, but have no skills in that area in the present life. Only the boys in the family got taken out deer hunting by grandpa. My boyfriend has done some bowhunting. Maybe he could take me sometime (after honing my archery skills, of course). Granted it doesn't quite fulfill the need for running the animal down and taking it with my own teeth, but I have to make allowances for the present anatomy.
Incidentally, does anybody know of a safe way to eat raw red meat? I find myself craving it when I get a good fresh cut, but I've never tried it for fear of getting sick. The brighter red it is, the more I start drooling.
Make sure it's fresh; that's all that is really needed, from what I understand. I think there's some sort of asian food... I don't know what it's called... it's basically thinly sliced cuts of raw steak. Very very good stuff. If I can remember or find out the name of the dish, I'll post it; you could probably find out more by looking along those lines.
I relate to the bear, more on terms of eating whatever I see, even though my most prominant otherkin is equine based O.o Go figure...
As for the raw meat thing, there's a Korean dish that uses raw meat as a dip of sorts, it looks fo freakin' good. You could probably google it, but I'll also look it up in my cookbook and post it, if I remember... >.>
I'm finding that it's easier to eat veggie-ish than I first thought...I can't stand beans or potatoes. But with soy, it's really not that hard. And there's lots more protein in vegetables than we usually think -- look at broccoli. *^_^*
Someday, when my planning abilities are better, I might try going veggie again. Last time I tried, I lasted less than an hour before I forgot I wasn't supposed to eat meat - and had a hamburger. I was halfway through the burger when I remembered. Oops... :P I figure that's a pretty good indication that going vegetarian probably isn't the best thing for me right now. ;)
The solution to this is easy: learn how to make steak tartar. It's literally raw meat that has certain seasonings and such on it that kills anything on it. Or barring that you could just forgo the eating of *totally* raw meat and just lightly sear the outer few millimeters. The most dangerous things on steak live on the very surface, which is why you can't easily get a rare burger at a resteraunt anymore but you can get steak that's barely cooked at all. Or you could do like we do here sometimes and just have small amounts on rare occasions. The only real reaon the appendix in humans is so atrophied in adulthood is that we never feed our kids raw meat while young, so it never gets any exercise. Give it a light workout every now and then, and as long as you're sure the meat is clean (free of disease or parasites) you'll be fine.
